Cider watch: Four Somerset players in action in south west derby clash

JamieFour of Somerset’s players were in action in as Dorset were comfortably beaten by Devon in their opening Minor Counties Championship clash of the summer earlier this week.

Chris Jones, Jack Leach and Max Waller appeared for Dorset in the home clash at Dean Park, while Jamie Overton  (pictured) turned out for his native Devon in the visitors’ dressing room.

Dorset succumbed to an innings defeat to a strong Devon side within a day and a half, twice being dismissed cheaply for 118 and 149 in response to Devon’s 310-8.

Jamie Overton, picked up three wickets in the match for Devon for 84 runs, although none of his Somerset teammates counted among his victims.

Leach was unable to follow his excellent form with the bat into this game. He had made 99 for Taunton Deane the day before, but was dismissed for 5 and 0 this time. With the ball though, he picked up two top-order Devon wickets for 68 runs in Devon’s only innings, one lbw and one to a catch behind the wicket. Unfortunately Chris Jones made a pair and Waller, who didn’t bowl, scored 1 and 12 in his two innings and took one catch.

Jamie Overton is in action for Devon again this weekend. He has been named in the side to play Suffolk in the Unicorns KO Trophy Quarter Final at Bury St Edmunds on Sunday 15 June below. We wish Jamie and the Devon side all the best as they bid to secure a semi-final slot.
