Cider Watch: Overton and Waller in the wickets for their Devon club sides

cider watchSomerset’s Jamie Overton and Max Waller helped bowl their Devon league clubs to victory in two fine displays at the weekend in the Devon Cricket League Premier Division.

Playing for North Devon Cricket Club against Exmouth at Instow, Overton firstly starred with the bat, top scoring with 69 from just 56 balls before he was caught behind. He smashed six fours and two sixes as his side finished on 197-9 off their 50 overs.

In reply, Overton and Jack Pudney ran through the Exmouth batting line-up, bundling them out for just 80 in 15.4 overs.

Overton took four wickets for 31 in six overs, with one maiden, while Pudney finished with 5-35 from his eight overs.

Meanwhile Waller was in action for Torquay away to Cornwood at Oak Park.

The hosts won the toss and put Torquay into bat, Waller falling early when he was bowled for 12 with the score on 38. Thereafter 96 at exactly a run a ball from Fahad Iqbal and 41 from keeper Matt Thompson helped their side post a score of 224-8 from 50 overs.

In reply, Cornwood lost wickets at regular intervals, only opener Ryan Rickard putting up any resistance with 31 before he became one of four wickets for Waller who ran through the tail and finished with superb figures of 6.3-2-10-4.

With one round of matches still to go, Adam Dibble’s club Sidmouth have already clinched the league title and are some 71 points clear of second-place Plymouth. North Devon lie in sixth, while Torquay are in eighth, 40 points clear of Cornwood and Sandford in the relegation zone.

Next Saturday (30 August) Sidmouth host North Devon while Torquay host third-place Bovey Tracey.
