Cider watch: Second ton in a week for James

Somerset County Sports Cricket League – Sunday 29 June 2014

Somerset’s James Regan continued his impressive form with the bat on Sunday, scoring his second century in a week as Taunton St Andrews crushed North Curry by the massive margin of 205 runs.

Fresh from a rearguard four-and-a-half hour championship ton under pressure for Somerset Second XI against Essex, James cut free, blasting 108 runs off the North Curry attack.

In all, St Andrews notched up 308-8 in their 40 overs in this Somerset County Sports Cricket League fixture, played at the White Street Sport Ground in North Curry.

Somerset’s Robbie Montgomery, who’d also appeared with James for Somerset Seconds against Essex, bowled for North Curry but was unable to get among the wickets this time.

North Curry’s reply did not really get going, with only three batsmen getting into double figures. The home side were all out for 103 in just 23.1 overs.

Meanwhile on Sunday, Taunton St Andrews found out who their opponents will be in the upcoming regional final of the NatWest T20.

St Andrews, whose T20 side is captained by James Regan, won through to the final a couple of weeks ago.

On Sunday a young Bath CC side took the other final place after beating Frocester and Bristol in a three-match semi-finals day at Longwood.

Bristol won the morning fixture against Bath by seven wickets, but Bath then won the afternoon game against Frocester by four wickets.

Somerset’s Tim Rouse scored 43 and 30 respectively in the two games for Bath. He also returned figures of 2.3-0-13-1with the ball in the match against Bristol.

Frocester then won the evening game against Bristol, which meant one win each for all three sides.

So the calculators had to be brought out to determine the winner. Bath were eventually awarded the second final spot on the basis of a superior run rate over the course of the day.

We’ll bring you news of what promises to be an exciting final between Bath and Taunton St Andrews on The InCider.
