Cricket legend Sir Gary Sobers visits Taunton School

Sporting legend Sir Gary Sobers visited Taunton School for a special cricketing afternoon on Monday this week (29 June).
Sir Gary is viewed as one of the greatest all-rounders in cricket, with over 8,000 test runs at a 57.78 average and over 200 Test wickets at an average of 34.
The programme of events started with coaching sessions on the Front for children from the Prep School and three local primary schools – Parkfield, North Town and Cotford St Luke.
They were run by Taunton School’s Head of Cricket Development and Somerset captain, Marcus Trescothick.

He was assisted by the school’s other coaches, including Marcus Harris who also opens the batting for Western Australia, Perth Scorchers and Taunton Cricket Club.
Afterwards, the children were able to meet Sir Gary, obtain his autograph and have photographs taken with him.

The afternoon concluded with a question and answer session in the Old Library attended by Senior students, staff, parents and members of the public.
With thanks to Taunton School for the photographs.
