Peter Trego has won The Incider player of the month award for July, which is supported by Somerset County Sports. This particular award was voted for by the team at SCS and by writers of the site.
Few players are as busy as Tregs. He is fluent in all forms of the game and is pretty much guaranteed a starting place in every Somerset side if he is fit. True to form Tregs played a lot of games in July in three different formats.
The highlight for the immensely popular all-rounder from Weston-super-Mare was the drawn Championship game against Sussex at Taunton. Tregs took 2 for 32 to help bowl the visitors out for 208 and went into bat with his side languishing on 36 for 4. He scored 81 in a stand of 165 with James Hildreth to help Somerset to a lead of 66. Then Sussex took the game by the scruff and posted 490 for 4 leaving the cider county with a mountain to climb. Tregs stepped out with the score 80 for 4 and it was soon 84 for 5 but a battling, unbeaten 95 from Pete helped Somerset to save the game and finish on 208 for 6.
He also struck a half-century in the Royal London One Day Cup match against Durham and offered more useful contributions in the NatWest T20 Blast too.
Well done to Tregs. This is his second award on The Incider as he won last season’s August award. We look forward to presenting his bottle of champagne very soon.
