A proud Alex Barrow took to the field as England’s 12th man in front of a packed Lord’s crowd on the opening day of the second Test against India yesterday.
The Somerset reserve keeper fielded for much of the afternoon session while Liam Plunkett was off the pitch with a tight hamstring.
Before his appearance in an England shirt today, Alex told The Bath Chronicle: “I have played at Lord’s a couple of times and it’s a fantastic ground.
“If I can make a difference in the field when an opportunity arises, I will be very happy.”
Somerset chairman Andy Nash tweeted a photo of Alex on the field at Lord’s and the message: “Honour for Baz”.
The InCider would like to congratulate Alex on his England call-up, which is well-deserved recognition of his fine skills in the field.
The last Somerset man to field as 12th man for England was Chris Taylor last year when he was our fielding coach. Before that of course, James Hildreth famously appeared as 12th man in the 2005 Ashes.
